TU Men's Basketball Preview

The Tulsa men's basketball team returns home to play host to the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 78-73 road win at UALR. This game is the start of a four-game homestand to close out non-conference play.

The Series

This is the fourth meeting between Tulsa and Southeastern Oklahoma State. SE leads the series, 3-0. All three games were played between 1926-36. The Savage Storm won, 55-26 in 1926 in Durant, Okla., 39-19 in 1927 in Tulsa, and 21-14 in 1936 in Winfield, Kan. The 1926 and 1927 games were played when both schools were members of the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference.

• In its last outing, Tulsa picked up its first road win of the season with a 78-73 victory at UALR. James Woodard led the Golden Hurricane with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Shaquille Harrison scored 17 points, Rashad Ray scored 11 points, Marquel Curtis added 10 points, and Brandon Swannegan recorded 10 rebounds. Harrison and Ray each tallied five assists.

• Woodard was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 8, after averaging 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from downtown in wins last week over Creighton and UALR.

• Tulsa is shooting 38 percent on 3-point field goals this season. The Hurricane has improved the percentage from its first two games, when it shot 17 percent (5-of-29) from beyond the arc. TU has made 44 percent (4-for-99) threes in the past six games.

• Six TU players – James Woodard, Shaquille Harrison, Marquel Curtis, D'Andre Wright, Rashad Ray and Rashad Smith – have been responsible for 90.5 percent of the teams points, 68.5 percent of the rebounds, 97.6 percent of the assists and 87.8 percent of the steals, while totaling 82.1 percent of the total minutes played.

• In eight ­games this season, Tulsa has allowed its opponents 61.1 points per game, and a .388 field goal percentage, including a .331 3-point percentage.

• The Tulsa defense has held seven of its first eight opponents to less than 50 percent field goal shooting, and 39 of its last 42 opponents under .500 from the field dating back to the start of the 2013-14 season. Five of eight opponents this season have shot under 40 percent.

• The Golden Hurricane has outrebounded its first eight opponents by a total of 292-261, an average of 36.5-32.6 per game.

Teddy Bear Toss – Dec. 13

For the second straight year, the Golden Hurricane will hold a Teddy Bear Toss donation for the St. Francis Children's Hospital. All fans are encouraged to bring an unused Teddy Bear to the TU-OU basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 1:30 p.m. At halftime, fans will be asked to “toss” their Teddy Bear onto the Reynolds Center court. Each bear will be donated to the St. Francis Children's Hospital. All stuffed bears are welcome – big or small!
