Apparently the Cherokee Nation's bison herd in eastern Oklahoma has adjusted quite well to its new surroundings. A herd of 30+ bison from South Dakota arrived near Kenwood in Delaware County in October 2014.  Friday, the tribe says it is expecting six to eight calves by March.

The Cherokee Nation received 38 bison cows from the Badlands National Park in South Dakota from the InterTribal Buffalo Council and 12 bulls from the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.

Tribal officials say the 50 bison are grazing on 250 acres which it will expand as the herd continues to grow. They hope to grow the herd to about 200.
