TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa's Animal Rescue Foundation reached a milestone Friday, rescuing its 10,000th animal.

The rescue represents more than 25 years of work by a dedicated group of volunteers and foster homes. The 10,000th puppy came in with a broken leg and pelvis, so he will need surgery and some rehab time.

"He's a very sweet puppy, about 3 months old," she said. He was taken from Tulsa Animal Welfare to be fostered.

Animal Intake Coordinator Claire Glossop said since they are a foster-based rescue, it's quite an achievement to have helped that many animals find forever homes.

The group with be opening an adoption center at LaFortune Park, just off Yale at the small building at the duck pond. Their ability to rescue animals should increase substantially once that takes place.

The 10,000th pup doesn't have a name yet - but you can help. There will be a contest to name the puppy at ARF's Facebook page.
