Spring-Like Weather Gives Way To Possible Wintry Mix

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Above normal temperatures Saturday gave way to bitter cold as winter weather moves back into Oklahoma late Saturday. Timing depends on your location, but temperatures will be falling quickly along with gusty northeast winds and increasing cloud cover, according to News On 6 WARN Team meteorologist Dick Faurot.

We should stay dry Saturday, but the same can't be said for Sunday, Faurot said in his weather blog.

Dick Faurot's Weather Blog: Nice Saturday, Winter Weather Potential Sunday

"Currently, this pattern is more supportive of a mixed bag of sleet/freezing rain/rain with potentially some snow for the far northern counties," Faurot said.

"Amounts will be light, but it does not take much ice to create problems, particularly for elevated surfaces such as bridges, overpasses, and power lines.

"Right now, not expecting this to be a major impact event, but these conditions will need to be closely monitored leading up to Sunday," he said.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch in effect from Sunday evening through Monday morning for parts of southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. Counties listed in the watch include Pittsburg, Sequoyah, McIntosh, LeFlore, Latimer and Haskell.

Sleet and freezing rain are expected to develop Sunday night in those areas with up to an inch of sleet and a quarter inch of ice predicted.
