TULSA, Oklahoma -

The National Weather Service in Tulsa says winter weather advisories and warnings are in effect for much of eastern Oklahoma and all of northwest Arkansas tonight into Monday.

They issued a winter weather advisory for freezing rain, sleet and snow in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday for Tulsa, Creek, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Wagoner, Rogers, Mayes, Pawnee, Washington, Osage, Craig, Nowata and Muskogee counties.

The most recent data Sunday afternoon suggests snow totals may be a bit higher than first predicted. Green Country may see a period of ice and snow that could impact travel Sunday night into Monday morning, according to WARN Team meteorologist Mike Grogan

"By late afternoon, areas of light rain and sleet will develop over our region," Grogan said.

"By around midnight, temperatures at cloud level will fall to near freezing, and we'll start to see more snowfall."

Snow and sleet are expected mainly along and north of Highway 412 while a mix of freezing rain and sleet is forecast to the south of that line.

That means much of the icing will be well south of Tulsa, but sleet and snow may cause roadways to become hazardous by later in the evening and into the Monday morning commute.

Conditions should improve by Monday afternoon.

If possible, it would be a good idea to plan your travel before dark on Sunday. You can always check road conditions at the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety website.
