TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - Police made an arrest after Tahlequah man was shot during a home invasion in Cherokee County late Thursday. 

The Tahlequah Daily Press reports it happened around 10:20 p.m.

Police tell the newspaper a man forced is way into a home, assaulted two people, tried to steal some of their belongings and then took off. Police say one of the residents got a gun and fired several shots at the man, hitting him in the back and head.

The newspaper reports police arrested one person booked the person into the Cherokee County jail on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill.

Police say the shooting victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police haven't released the names of the people involved.
