Support continues for Claremore firefighter Jason Farley who drowned following a water rescue on Memorial Day weekend.
A benefit concert for Farley's family was held on Sunday in Claremore.
Concert organizers said the support for Farley and firefighter Zane James, who nearly drowned trying to save Farley, has been non-stop.
All day, folks were not only able to support a great cause but also have fun while doing it.
Five area bands took turns hitting the stage to perform. In addition, organizers held several raffles as well as a silent auction.
Farley left behind a wife and a 16-year-old daughter.
The Claremore fire chief says the family will receive his pension, but it won't replace Farley's salary, so they'll need more support in the coming months as they mourn his loss.
"It's a really difficult situation because it's not anything that a fire chief ever wants to have to deal with,” chief Sean Douglas said. “I have been in this business since I was around 11 years old, and as a fire chief, it's not something I ever wanted to deal with, but we have a very large support group."
As for the surviving firefighter James, he still has a long way to go in his recovery, but chief Douglas says he's doing better.
If you couldn't make it to the benefit, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to benefit Farley's widow and daughter.
