Independence, Kansas residents are advised there may be some downtime for the non-emergency police line from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 25.

The city is installing a new phone system that could cause problems during that time. Administrators said residents who need to report a non-emergency situation during that time should call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 620-330-1000.

"If you have an emergency please dial 911 as always - there will not be any interruptions to the emergency lines," a news release states. "If  IPD is not able to answer then Coffeyville PD will do so immediately - no change in service will be noticeable to the caller in these situations."

They also ask that residents be patient during the phone system upgrade.
