Bixby Bike Shop Nears Reopen Date After Vandalism

Posted: Updated:
BIXBY, Oklahoma -

A Bixby bicycle store is almost ready to reopen after someone crashed a stolen pickup truck into its back wall, catching the building on fire.

The store moved to a temporary location for the past month while they rebuilt and investigators looked for the driver.

The fire and water damaged store had to be gutted, after vandals hit the store twice in less than a year.

In December, surveillance video caught someone smashing out the storefront windows and throwing something inside.

Owner Buster Brown is prepared if vandals try to hit his store again. He hopes to be moved in again by Monday.

"Hopefully it won't happen again, but we're ready if it does,” owner Buster Brown said. “We've got cameras everywhere. We've got security systems everywhere, landlords have cameras everywhere. We're going to have concrete poles in the ground."

While a reward is still out to help catch the vandals, Brown is happy to be moving back into his store.

“This is going to be a little bit new, of course the bathroom and all was completely taken out..." Brown said.

More than 30 volunteers and construction workers will be helping get this store back open and moved in.

He's hopeful someone will be held accountable for the mess they caused.

“We just need one small break, one small break to say, 'We saw this and this and we know and you need to talk to this person,'” Brown said. “Somebody knows in this community. Somebody knows, and we're just hoping they'll do the right thing and step up and come to us."

Brown is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
