TULSA, Oklahoma -

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect until 10 p.m. for counties northwest of  Tulsa. Additional storms are developing in southern Kansas, and some of this activity should eventually move into far northern Oklahoma by early this evening.

Counties include Nowata, Osage, Pawnee and Washington.

Large hail and damaging winds will be possible, with a weakening trend expected later tonight. A cold front is entering northwest Oklahoma and moving southeast across the state with storms likely to develop along the boundary, according to WARN Team meteorologist Alan Crone.

Additional storms will become more likely south of Tulsa overnight into early Wednesday.

"The air mass behind the departing front Wednesday morning combined with abundant cloud cover and rain-cooled air should result in Wednesday afternoon highs in the lower 70s for northern OK along with north winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Some locations could stay in the upper 60s," Crone said.
