A friend of the two men killed in a Midwest City hotel room last weekend says both victims should be honored.

Off-duty Sapulpa Police Lieutenant Trey Pritchard and his cousin, Jeffrey Grafton, died in the shooting.

Midwest City Police said Grafton and Pritchard had gone to the hotel to get Grafton's pickup, which they said had been stolen by Grafton's son. Midwest City Police said Grafton's son shot and killed his father, then shot and killed Pritchard when he went inside the hotel room to investigate what happened to the elder Grafton.

Kerri Street-Manuel said she attended Sapulpa High School with the two men and graduated with them in the class of 1987. In an email to News On 6, she said she understood why so much attention was focused on Pritchard's death, but wanted to make sure the public understood what a good person Grafton was, too.

She said Grafton and Pritchard were cousins, but were also best friends and did everything together. Grafton served his country in the U.S. Marines during Operation Desert Storm.

Street-Manuel said Grafton had been a sheriff's deputy, before going back to college in his 40s and earning a doctorate in pharmacology. He was working as a pharmacist at the time of his death.

In addition to raising three children, he was also the caretaker for his parents who lost their home to a fire.

"The community response to Trey's death has been incredible, as I expected. The police family he had undoubtedly will take care of his wife and children," she wrote. "But I've heard of nothing for Jeff's family. They weigh heavily on my heart. Theirs is a triple loss."

She said the Sapulpa High School Class of 1987 has set up accounts for both the Graftons and the Pritchards to help with their funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any American Heritage Bank.
