For the first time in a quarter century, the Great Raft Race will take place on the Arkansas River. The Raft Race begins Monday morning at 8 at Sand Springs River City park and will run most all day, ending in Tulsa at River West Festival Park.
Watch Six in the Morning on race day. Osage SkyNews 6 HD will be flying overhead during the 8 o'clock hour. NewsOn6.com plans to live stream the launch and more.
Rafters will float about nine miles then find activities, food and entertainment at the end of the line.
The race was a Tulsa tradition in the '70s and '80s. It was a free-for-all then, but you must be registered this time around, and there was an entry fee. Registration was so popular, some people are offering to purchase someone else's entry after the deadline passed.
All members of float teams must check in at registration to sign a waiver - and check back in at the finish line, according to the Raft Race website.
You also need to wear a life jacket at launch and as you float.
