Thursday Morning Update

Warmer Today And A Friday Morning Front

Temperatures are slightly warmer at this hour compared to yesterday with many locations in the upper 50s and lower 60s.   Our minor warming trend will remain today with highs moving into the mid and upper 80s.   A few lower 90s will be possible across the southwestern part of the state.   A cold front will move into the area early tomorrow morning bringing a few showers and storms across southern Kansas and northern OK.   No severe weather is expected.   This front will clear the area Friday morning to midday and will move across the North TX area by later in the day.   The best chance for showers and/or storms will remain across the northern third of the state for the early morning hours.   Nice fall weather will remain Friday afternoon and evening with temperatures moving into the lower and mid-70s for highs before dropping into the upper 40s and lower 50s Saturday morning.

The main upper level pattern has not changed from earlier this week:   a strong looking upper level low located across the southwestern U.S. will begin to stall and eventually retrograde westward to the Baja this weekend and a strong looking upper level trough will move across the northern jet stream across the northern high plains later today.   This will drive the cold front southward into our area early Friday morning.   The lack of significant upper level support combined with meager moisture will keep the severe weather threat away from our area.   The front appears to be nearing the southern Kansas region around 1am Friday morning, nearing the metro around 3am, and pushing into the I-40 region around 8am to 10am.  Most of the showers or storms will occur behind the boundary.   This means the main window for precip will be from 1am to about 9am, with the metro window from approximately 3am to 8am.  The air-mass behind the Friday morning front will bring some drier air into the state by the afternoon.   Morning clouds will thin out by the afternoon.   Friday night football looks great with game-time temps starting in the upper 60s and falling into the upper 50s by the 4th quarter.   No rain will occur and winds will remain from the northeast at 10 mph.

Saturday starts with nice and cool fall weather.   Many locations across NE OK could drop into the mid-40s with the metro in the upper 40s.   Daytime highs Saturday will climb into the upper 70s north and the lower 80s south.   Wind will remain light and from the southeast.

Sunday a warming trend will commence with lows in the lower 60s and highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the state.   The data continue to support another front moving across the state Monday morning with north winds and a minor cool down.   Temperatures will top out in the lower 80s Monday and Tuesday, but unfortunately, no precipitation is expected with the front.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
