MULDROW, Oklahoma - Sequoyah County authorities have a person of interest in custody Thursday after a woman was found shot lying in a roadside ditch near Muldrow earlier in the day.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart told KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, the woman was taken a local hospital in critical condition.

He says the victim was found along old Highway 64 around 4 a.m. when someone spotted her beside the highway.

About a mile from where the woman was found, Lockhart says two homes had been hit by gunfire.  He says one homeowner told them a bullet nearly hit her as she was sleeping in her bed.

Lockhart has not released the names of the victim or the person of interest.
