Students at Broken Arrow's Wolf Creek Elementary are doing their best Andy Warhol.

"Our theme right now is pop art," said teacher Amanda Latta.

What better pop art icon to focus on than Andy Warhol? One of his most famous paintings was his Campbell Soup Cans back in the early 60s. The kids are doing their best Andy Warhol.

She's given them blank Campbell's labels and they provide the art, creative artwork and sometimes creative soup. Max here is decorating a label for his Apple Soup.

Rick: "Would it be, sweet or sour apple soup?"
Max: "Sour apple."

Yum. The classes just finished a project on modern art with  Pablo Picasso as the focus. One of his paintings, The Rooster, was the focus of these Roosters.

The kids learn about the artist and Amanda brings in examples of his work. Yeah, more than just soup cans.

Amanda: "I've got some of the plates that feature Marilyn Monroe."
Rick: "Where are those?"
Amanda: "I'll show you right over here."

So the kids learn something and have fun doing it

"Let your creative juices flow," Amanda said.

Nothing much more fun or creative than rainbow soup...

"Imagine the best thing you've ever tasted, multiply by 10."

Wow that would be good. When they finish they cut the label to size and put it around a real can of soup. Every class is in on the project.
The kids bring in a can of soup and decorate an original label for it. They can do more than one, and when they are finished the soup gets donated.

Having fun, being creative and helping others, about as good as it gets.

When the project is finished, they hope to have more than 500 cans of soup to donate to Broken Arrow Neighbors. That should happen sometime around Thanksgiving.
