The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office warns the public of a phone scam involving someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The caller tells whoever answers the phone that they owe back taxes and need to pay.

"The caller is asking for a payment to be made via credit card or money gram," said Deputy Justin Green, public information officer with TCSO.

"Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office employees have received these phone calls as well as have had citizens report the same information."

The calls, which are placed from a 404 area code, are not from the IRS. Anyone who gets a fraudulent call like this is asked to call the IRS scam number at 1-800-366-4484.
