A teen was seriously hurt when he was hit by a car while crossing a Tulsa street Monday morning. Police said it happened at about 5 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Skelly Drive near 33rd West Avenue.

EMSA transported the 14-year-old victim with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Jenks Police found the car and the driver involved in the crash later in the morning.

A detective was driving through a neighborhood when he saw the silver Toyota Camry parked outside a home near the 600 block of North Furr.

It had a hairline crack on the windshield and a broken passenger-side headlight.

The detective said he talked to the homeowner - a pastor who told him the car is owned by a church. Police learned the man who was driving at the time of the wreck, Gin Z Taung, is Burmese and didn't speak English, police say.

The pastor was able to help translate, and the driver told officers he was on his way to work and knew he'd hit something. He said he turned around and returned to the scene of the crash but felt threatened and went to the pastor's house. The man did not have a cell phone, Jenks police said.

Tulsa police say Taung was cited for leaving the scene of an accident but otherwise did nothing wrong. Officer Jeannie MacKenzie said the 14-year-old boy was at fault for stepping out into the street in front of the Camry.
