Child crisis detectives are investigating the deaths of five babies in the past ten days, including the death of a 6-month-old boy over the weekend.

Detectives have made one arrest in that case and said they may make another.

Police said a woman was keeping her child in the back half of a shed that had no insulation. They said the shed was filthy and filled with chemicals.

The shed is behind the house where Kevin Crawford's parents live. They said they knew Kevin was staying there and that a woman was coming by with her baby, but said she wasn't welcome.

Owner: "All I want to tell you is we're not the grandparents."
Lori: "You're not the grandparents of the baby?"
Owner: "Not the grandparents, period. She wasn't to be back there but she kept coming."

She said her daughter called DHS about the baby three weeks ago because the mother was partying and didn't have a stable place for the baby to live.

Records show the mother, Anna Hyden, is currently on a deferred sentence for lying to police about who she was to avoid getting arrested on a warrant in 2013.

Police said Hyden left her baby with Crawford for a few hours Saturday while she ran errands - knowing he was doing meth - and when she returned her son wasn't breathing, so she called 911.

They said Crawford took off, but police found him on Monday and arrested him for child neglect and having meth.

Records show he has a past meth conviction and was sentenced to seven years, but served about two.

One neighbor said she knew someone was cooking meth in the shed based on the smell.

Neighbor: "You could smell is every day."
Lori: "Smell chemicals?"
Neighbor: "Yes ma'am, yes, ma'am."
Lori: "Can you imagine a baby living around those chemicals?"
Neighbor: "I can't imagine anyone living around those chemicals."

Police are investigating the mother's actions, but, right now, are waiting on the medical examiner's report to tell them exactly how the baby died.

We asked DHS if they received calls about the baby or took any action. The law says they can't release that information until someone has been charged with the death - then have 45 days to do so.

They said they respond to most hotline calls within 24 to 72 hours, depending on the information they get and if they can find the child.
