Tulsa's mayor presented a proclamation on Friday to the Newfield Exploration Company Foundation to honor its $35,000 gift to Reading Partners Tulsa.

The nonprofit serves 1,000 Tulsa Public Schools students who are at least two and a half years behind in reading.

"We couldn't serve as many students without the dedicated volunteers that give an hour a week to come and provide this literacy instruction to the students in our schools," Elizabeth Brands Vereecke said.

"We saw an increase in their reading proficiency and comprehension, and it just speaks volumes for what, what our employees have done," Dewey Bartlett III said.

If you're interested in volunteering, call Reading Partners at 918-949-1979.
