OBU Football: 2016 Schedule Released

Posted: Updated:
SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma Baptist opens on the road against Harding but will play six home football games in the 2016 season.

All 11 games are Great American Conference tilts, marking OBU’s second time through the league.

“It is good to have gone through it one time,” said Bison head coach Chris Jensen. “We can look at players on paper and get heights and weights but until you’ve gone up against a coach, you don’t know how he’s going to utilize those players.”

The Bison open with a 6 p.m. kickoff at Harding Sept. 3 before playing the next two games at home – Sept. 10 against Arkansas Tech and Sept. 17 against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Both of those home kickoffs are at noon.

“We’d prefer to open at home, so that first game on the road is not ideal, but we are excited to have six home games,” Jensen said. “Some of our road games are closer so we don’t have as many overnight stays and it will be easier on our fans.”

OBU plays at East Central Sept. 24 and at Arkansas-Monticello Oct. 1.

The Bison have another two-game home stand, facing Southern Arkansas Oct. 8 and Northwestern Oklahoma State Oct. 15 – both games starting at 2 p.m.

OBU visits Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford Oct. 22 and hosts Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. Oct. 29.

Henderson State entertains the Bison in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, in OBU’s final road game on Nov. 5.

Homecoming, set for Nov. 12, has the Bison closing out the season against arch-rival Southern Nazarene at 1 p.m.

The Bison finished the 2015 campaign at 2-9 with wins over Arkansas-Monticello and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Two of their nine losses came in overtime games.

“We’re focused right now on spring practice and getting ready for that first game,” Jensen said.
