Dry Conditions, High Winds Bring Fire Dangers Across Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Despite some much-needed rain over the weekend, the current dry conditions and high winds have brought fire dangers back across Oklahoma.

Red Flag warnings have been issued until 7:00 p.m. for Cleveland, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Kay, Lincoln, Logan, Mayes, McClain, Noble, Nowata, Oklahoma, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Payne, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington counties.

Weather Alerts

According to the National Weather Service, the gusty winds and dry air will combine to create “aggressive fire behavior” for much of the day, but say conditions will improve by sunset.

They say any fires that do start will likely spread rapidly. Because of this, any outdoor burning is discouraged.

As far as the forecast, News On 6 meteorologist Mike Grogan said the day will be much warmer than normal for this time of year, with temperatures near 80 degrees in some areas.

Winds will also continue to pick up, Grogan said, with some gusts recorded around 40 miles per hour. He said the strong gusts will hang around until early Tuesday evening.

Temperatures will then start to drop some, creating a chilly start to Wednesday morning which will be the start of a cooling trend the rest of the week.
