New Tool Helps Tulsa Police Get Through Doors When Seconds County

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa police have a cutting-edge tool that allows them to cut locks and open doors in situations where getting inside fast is critical, like during an instance of active shooters.

The tool created by Jersey Tactical will allow them to defeat nearly any lock or door.

The tool weighs about 10 pounds compared to the old battering rams that were a 40-pound chunk of steel.

Plus, it's easy to use, which is critical when someone is inside a building shooting innocent people.

The Virginia Tech shooter chained the doors shut from the inside. Officers can't save lives if they can't get to the scene.

"They have the skills to solve the problem if they can just get in,” TPD Cpl. Jason Muse said.

Tulsa now has 75 of the tools for patrol officers because they are first on the scene and can't wait for a SWAT team to arrive.

Every second counts.

TPD plans eventually to outfit every officer with one of the tools, in hopes they'll never have to use it.
