Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Cool Friday, Then A Warming Trend

TULSA, Oklahoma -

A second surge of cool air has arrived this morning along with gusty northwest winds around 10 to 20 mph.   The daytime highs will stay in the upper 50s to lower 60s today along with partly sunny conditions across northern OK.   A weak disturbance will bring more clouds to southern OK and possibly a few showers or sprinkles but most of the precipitation will probably stay in the north TX region.  Our weather pattern will remain relatively active for the next 7 days but with little in the way of rain or storm chances.   After a chilly Saturday morning, a warming trend will commence with highs in the 70s this weekend and possibly nearing 80 early next week.

We’re tracking three systems (if you count the one near the area today) for the next 7 day period.   Another front will move across the area Monday with little more than a wind shift.   The third system will arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday and could bring a few showers or storms to locations across southeastern Kansas or far eastern OK but our chances will remain near or less than 20% for this forecast cycle for the Tulsa metro.  There will probably end up a slightly higher chance with this system but the confidence is lacking to place anything other than a low pop on the map.

Temperatures today will start in the upper 30s and lower 40s across part of northern OK today with highs moving into the upper 50s and lower 60s along with northwest winds from 10 to 20 mph.   We’ll see some clouds in the sun-mix today.   A few showers or sprinkles with mostly cloudy conditions are more likely across the southern half of the state.

Saturday morning will see some locations near or slightly below freezing in a few of the valleys with the metro nearing 35.   Light northwest winds and sunshine will allow afternoon highs to move to near 70.

Sunday the southwest winds will increase at 10 to 25 mph with mostly sunny and warmer conditions.   Morning lows in the 40s and 50s will be followed by highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Monday may hit the upper 70s north or the lower 80s south before the front arrives with southwest winds shifting to the north around 10 to 15 mph.   This front will cross the area with little moisture to work with and no precipitation is expected.

Tuesday a strong surface area of low pressure will develop in the Lee of the Rockies and quickly move eastward along the OK and Kansas state line region.   Strong southeast winds will attempt to bring some low level moisture ahead of the system but the quality and depth of the moisture will be lacking.   A few showers or storms may be possible but the chances will remain low until we see indications of a higher moisture content returning into the area.

Following the midweek frontal passage, we may have another stretch of rather calm weather for a few days.    This surely will not last for long.   It’s springtime in Oklahoma.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
