TULSA, Oklahoma -

Instead of laying off workers, a Tulsa oil and gas company is looking to hire more people.

Charlie Brown is the vice president for business development at QPS Engineering. QPS Engineering builds oil and gas pipelines, oil and gas production facilities and all the associated stuff you can imagine.

I asked him how many people they're looking for.

"Probably about... Actually I don't know the exact numbers, but," said Brown.

QPS has taken over another floor of the building near 45th and Garnett.

Brown said, "We have a big new project that we've landed."

So they need people and this is where they'll put 'em. But a career in oil and gas, and its related businesses has always seemed so tenuous to those of us on the outside.

How do you recruit good folks into the business? Easy answer he told me.

"The oil business always comes back."

Norm Sloan is one of the first engineers to sign on when QPS started half a dozen years ago, or so.

"Would you recommend it?"
"Yeah, I wouldn't be here if I didn't," Sloan answered.

Good point. QPS Engineering, an oil patch business that's growing while much of the industry is shrinking.

The job fair will be at the downtown Doubletree Hotel on April 14 and 15, 2016.
