Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Pleasant Friday But Storm Chances Soon

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Our main focus for the weather will remain Sunday into Monday as a strong looking storm system will be nearing the state with increasing thunderstorm chances for some locations.   The best chance for central and eastern OK should be Sunday night into Monday, but a few showers and storms will be possible Saturday and Sunday morning in a few locations.   The weather today should be fantastic with dry air, sunshine with high clouds, and much lighter northwest winds compared to the previous few days.   Red Flag warnings will not be required today but the fire danger will remain elevated.   Please use caution.

The temperatures this morning have dropped into the 40s for a large portion of eastern OK.   The Tulsa metro may start around 40 to 44 this morning with light wind and clear sky for the morning hours.   Later today our winds from the northwest will be in the 10 mph range as surface ridge of high pressure migrates across central OK this morning and into northeastern Texas by later this evening.    Some high clouds should stream into the area around midday with increasing clouds later tonight.   As the next upper level system draws near the area this weekend our surface winds will return from the southeast and increase speeds.   Saturday speeds will be from 10 to 25 mph but stronger south winds are likely Sunday.

As the moisture begins to return across the state this weekend clouds will eventually develop and spread over the state from the southwest to northeast.   We’ll see partly cloudy conditions at times Saturday but would anticipated mostly cloudy sky Sunday.

The chance for a few showers and storms will remain Saturday morning to midday across the northern sections of the state but the overall chance should remain low.

Saturday night into Sunday we’re seeing signals for a slight better chance but mainly across far northeastern OK into southeastern Kansas.    After the early Sunday morning hours, we’ll probably be dry and windy for the majority of the day with highs in the upper 70s and a few spots around 80 to 82.

Sunday night scattered storms should start to develop as the main upper level system draws near the area.   A few of the storms may be strong to severe with large hail the main threat.   The front will slowly sag southward Monday with showers and storms likely for the first part of the day.   This may greatly limit our Monday afternoon highs but I’ll stay with a high near 70 for now.   We could easily drop into the 60s or even the upper 50s depending upon how long the precipitation lingers during the day Monday.

Cooler and dry air will more than likely arrive Tuesday into Wednesday.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
