Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Rain This Weekend

Scattered thunderstorms and some storm clusters continue this morning, mainly across southern OK, and will eventually move out of the state after the early morning hours.   Temperatures will remain in the upper 50s and 60s this morning and move into the upper 70s near 80 later today along with decreasing clouds and northeast winds.   The weekend will feature cool and potentially wet conditions by Sunday with increasing thunderstorm chances Monday into Tuesday with some storms possibly severe.

The front moved across the area yesterday late and is pushing across southern OK early this morning.   Showers and storms have been most numerous across the southeastern, east central, and far northeastern sections of our immediate areas.  By the time most people view this post, most of the active weather will be exiting the region.  We’ll keep the chance for showers and storms in the short term morning forecast.

The upper air flow will transition to a northwest flow pattern and this will bring another front into the area late Friday night and Saturday morning.  The data has continued to trend cooler with highs in the 60s this weekend.   A few showers may be possible Saturday but higher precipitation chances will occur Sunday with an upper level disturbance moving across the region.    Monday into Tuesday will also remain active but the data does offer some differences in the placement of surface features.   The potential, however, for strong to severe storms may be increasing again early next week.   A warm front will develop and move northward Sunday night into Monday as another surface area of low pressure develops to our northwest.  Monday night or Tuesday this surface low will migrate across the state with additional storm chances as the associated cold front and quasi dry line feature will encounter central and eastern OK.   This system will exit the state Tuesday night or Wednesday with improving conditions expected late next week.
