The City of Tulsa on Wednesday broke ground on a new Compressed Natural Gas fueling station.
It's in East Tulsa on East 33rd Street, near the Interstate-44/Broken Arrow Expressway interchange.
The new station means the city's CNG fleet vehicles and Tulsa Transit buses will have another place to fill up.
Tulsans with CNG vehicles also can use the station.
The city has 52 CNG vehicles and 121 hybrid vehicles its fleet, which saves the city about $20,000 each year on fuel costs.
CNG also is better for the environment.
"It's a cleaner burning fuel. It burns about seven times cleaner than traditional petroleum fuels…” Brian Franklin said. “You know, the city wants to be a part of that movement.”
The nearly $2 million station is set to open early next year.
There's already one open in west Tulsa.
