The Tulsa City Council scheduled an emergency meeting Friday evening in response to recent violence involving police in Texas, Louisiana and Minnesota.

When it announced the meeting, the council said it would be holding it at Morning Star Baptist Church on Pine Street at 7 p.m. On Friday afternoon, it issued a news release saying it would hold the emergency meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall, and that councilors would then attend a prayer vigil at the church at 7.

According to the agenda, members of the city council will meet with state legislators, county commissioners, Tulsa Police, members of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and faith-based leaders to prevent tragedies like this week from happening in Tulsa.

In a news conference Friday morning, Tulsa Police Chief Dave Jordan said he and other city leaders were planning to meet with leaders of the African American community.
