TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office graduated 21 new cadets Friday afternoon.

They were sworn in as detention officers who will work at the Tulsa County Jail.

The cadets spent five weeks in training and their training coordinator, Latif Whitsett, said their role is a very specialized one.

"This is a place where we're dealing with normal people who have potentially made mistakes in their lives, so we have to treat them and train our cadets accordingly. We're not here to be judge or jury, we're here to supervise and make sure they're safe and secure in our facility," Whitsett said.

Before Friday afternoon's graduation ceremony, the cadets volunteered for a service project at the Ronald McDonald House in Tulsa.
