TULSA, Oklahoma - A Tulsa driver who pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an injury accident learned today she'll spend time behind bars.

A judge sentenced Elizabeth Herbert to 20 months in prison for leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Dacia Pittsley was crossing a downtown Tulsa street in March to catch an Uber ride after a concert.

Herbert admitted she hit Pittsley but kept going, telling the court she didn't know what she hit.

During today's sentencing, Herbert apologized to Dacia and her parents, who told the court about their daughter's painful recovery and how her life is changed forever since the accident.

“Miss Herbert made a choice that night to leave the scene of an accident, and that choice has consequences,” prosecutor Katy Hamstra said. “And the court today held her very accountable for those consequences.”

Herbert's attorney was hoping for leniency because his client had no prior convictions.

"I don't mean to be unsympathetic to this victim, and we wish her a full and quick recovery and convalescence, but to send my client to prison, I'm... I'm shocked,” defense attorney Tracy Tiernan said.

Herbert used to work in the athletics department at Tulsa Public Schools.
