How Your Tulsa Komen Race For The Cure Donations Are Used

Each year, you hear about Tulsa Komen Race for the Cure and you're asked to donate to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Tuesday morning, 6 In The Morning's LeAnne Taylor talked with Christy Southard, Executive Director of the Tulsa affiliate of Susan G. Komen.

She listed who actually benefited from those donations in 2015.

• Morton Comprehensive Health Services - Circle of Care
• Oklahoma Project Woman - Free Breast Health Care for the Uninsured and Low Income
• Stigler Health & Wellness Center, Inc. - Improve Overall Breast Health
• Indian Health Care Resource Center - Reducing Health Disparities in Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment for American Indian Women

Christy Southard says during the 2015 grant cycle, Komen Tulsa funding provided:

• 11,670 with breast cancer specific education and awareness information
• 2,538 no-cost screening mammograms
• 1,455 no-cost clinical breast exams for medically under served in the Komen Tulsa Affiliate service area
• 332  no-cost diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds
• 34 breast cancers were detected in people who otherwise may not have had access to this life-saving information who are now able to seek treatment.
