Duke University is suing Aubrey McClendon's estate for about $10 million in unpaid pledges to the university.

The university filed the claim on Aug. 12 in Oklahoma County district court. The claim stated multiple charitable pledges made by the former Chesapeake CEO were unpaid at the time of his death on March 2

According to the claim, McClendon owed $9,942,000 at the time of his death to the university. Seven pledges were restated on Feb. 22, 2013 and one pledge was made on April 17, 2015.

According to court documents, the pledges were made toward several projects including toward work/study scholarships, the Student Plaza, the business school's auditorium and athletics.

McClendon graduated from Duke University in 1981 with a degree in history.
