Broken Arrow Pet Owners Victimized By Thieves

A Broken Arrow family believes it's been targeted by thieves.

Most any animal owner can relate to the way pets become an important part of the family.

And that is just the case with Liz and Larry Hutton's little Shih-tzu, affectionately named Precious Joy.

"We got her 11 years ago... she just turned 11 in November," said Liz Hutton, Broken Arrow Resident.

But despite her age, Liz says Precious looks and acts more like a puppy, making her a prime target for theft.

Liz believes someone stole Precious from her Broken Arrow backyard early Saturday morning. The Huttons' yard opens up to a park, so they put Precious on a leash staked in the ground. 

They say she wasn't even outside for 10 minutes when someone snatched her, taking the leash and stake, too.

"My heart just dropped and I just panicked at first and I just said a prayer immediately. Immediately I just prayed," said Liz.
    
BAPD says there have been three stolen dog reports this holiday season. And Tulsa Police has gotten six reports in the past month.

Police say this time of year even pet theft can increase, as criminals look to give the animals as gifts or sell them for extra cash.

"My prayer is that she's just OK," Liz said.

The Huttons say their only Christmas wish is to get their Precious Joy back. And they're offering a $500 reward for that to happen, no questions asked.

"I just want her home. I don't care how. I just want her home."

The Huttons now suggest staying outside with your dog,especially if you don't have a fence.

Police say it's best to have your pet micro-chipped, and get to know your neighbors, who provide an extra set of eyes.
