Morning Storms Move Across Green Country

Posted: Updated:

We’re tracking storms this morning moving across northern and eastern OK with pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall.   This batch of thunderstorm activity will continue to slide south and southeast away from the northern third of the state this morning but may persist later today and tonight across southern OK before weakening with time this morning.

These storms will remain south of most of our main area of concern later this afternoon and tonight.    Daytime highs will be in the mid-70s today.   Tuesday into Wednesday the south winds will strengthen and warmer weather will return.

Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s or lower 80s Tuesday and into the mid to upper 80s Wednesday along with south winds at 20 to 30 mph.

WARN Interactive Radar

Our next surface front will move across the state either late Wednesday night or Thursday morning with a chance for a line of storms to impact southeastern Kansas and northeastern OK. The severe weather threats will remain with this midweek front.

The outcome of the boundary will have a big role in the possible severe weather threats for Friday into Saturday as a powerful upper level system will be nearing the state. The data has been very consistent in bringing the upper level system across the central plains but has not been consistent on the exact placement of very important features.

Our chances for showers and storms will remain high for the Friday period including the chance of moderate to heavy rainfall.   We’ll need to mention the overall threat of some severe weather but will be vague until we get better confidence in the specific parameters with the system. The dynamics of the system due to support all modes of severe weather Friday into pre-dawn Saturday.  We’ll still need to wait-up for more specifics and higher confidence on the placement of these features before highlighting anymore about this system.

It does appear we’ll see a relative cool-down behind the departing storm system this weekend.   Morning lows will be in the 50s Saturday morning and into the lower to mid-40s Sunday morning.   Daytime highs this weekend will stay in the lower 60s.

Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great Monday.
