Pleasant Weather Day Across Eastern Oklahoma
TULSA, Oklahoma - Our pattern is getting ready to change and will bring pleasant weather into the southern plains and the state for the next few days. We'll eventually be experiencing sunshine and a warming trend Friday into the weekend. But we're still close enough to the main upper level low that brought the storms to the area yesterday that we'll see a few afternoon clouds today and possibly a few sprinkles across far eastern OK. This chance remains less than 20 percent.
Cold air aloft is located to the northeast of the area this morning as the main upper level trough begins to lift eastward. We’re starting with clear sky and cool conditions this morning with most locations reporting lower to mid-40s. We'll see some clouds developing again later today with sun-breaks and some blue sky between the clouds. The surface pressure gradient will keep the gusty north winds from 15 to 25 mph today with a few gusts near 30 mph. Highs will move into the upper 60s north and a few lower 70s south.

Friday a surface ridge of high pressure will develop across central OK with a mid-level ridge of high pressure developing across the southern U.S. This mid to upper level ridge will move eastward and be positioned across the southern and central plains Sunday into early next week while another western states trough begins to develop. The pattern ( Omega block) will block the eastward movement of the trough until Wednesday or Thursday of next week when our next storm system will take shape. GFS is faster and EURO is slower with the progression of the western trough into the plains next week. So we’ll have some timing issues to resolve over the next few days. In the meantime,…enjoy the pattern. We’ll dry out and warm up this weekend into early next week.
Temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s for morning lows from Friday into the weekend with daytime highs Friday in the lower 70s and into the upper 70s to lower 80s this weekend. North winds will remain Friday before backing from the south this weekend and increasing speeds Sunday into early next week. Temperatures early next week will be above the seasonal average with lows in the 50s and highs in the lower or even a few mid-80s.
Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.
