Spotty Showers, Storms For Northern Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

Good morning. We're going to experience a few showers and storms for the next few days as a weak boundary will remain draped across northern OK and southern Kansas.

The chance will remain around 20 to 30 percent Tuesday until later in the week when a weak mid-level disturbance should approach the state with increasing thunderstorm chances and coverage. The upper air flow will remain rather weak but the presence of robust low-level moisture may result in a few strong to severe storms along with pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall.

Daytime temps will stay in the lower to mid-80s both today and tomorrow depending upon locations of temporary rain-cooled boundaries but should drop a few degrees as we draw closer to the end of the week including the weekend. It appears our best chance for thunderstorm activity will begin around Thursday and may continue into the Saturday night before ending Sunday morning.

A weak disturbance is brushing the northwestern OK and southwestern Kansas area this morning and will move eastward over the next few hours.   Scattered showers and some thunderstorm activity will be possible and even likely along this zone as it moves eastward today.  Winds aloft are relatively weak but later today with the addition of daytime heating a few of the storms may end up being strong to severe, mostly across far NE OK and SE Kansas as they move out of the state around midday to early afternoon. Any additional activity this afternoon or evening will be very spotty and should drop out with the loss of daytime heating.

Storms will gradually ramp back up Thursday as a disturbance approaches the state with increasing thunderstorm chances Friday and Saturday.   We’ll see a reduction in temperatures across most of eastern OK during this period due to the enhanced cloud cover and the possibility of rainfall over a larger area.  Today’s temps will be rather spotty due to the variance in thunderstorm coverage.  This means some locations may stay in the upper 70s or lower 80s this afternoon across the northern areas while locations across southern OK (lower chance of storms) may be in the upper 80s.

The weekend will start with a good chance of showers and storms Saturday but the system will be exiting the area Sunday morning with improving conditions by Sunday midday to afternoon.   At least that’s the plan at this point.

Thanks for reading the abbreviated version of the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
