One Dead, One In Custody After Catoosa Shooting, Police Say

Posted: Updated:
CATOOSA, Oklahoma -

Catoosa Police said a fight between two co-workers left one man dead outside their workplace and one in custody.

Police said the suspect and victim worked together at a truck mechanic shop company; they said the two started arguing, and then one man pulled out his gun.

Catoosa Police officers said the suspect shot his coworker at least three times, killing him.

When officers arrived, they found one man lying down in the gravel parking lot. The suspect, they said, surrendered right away.

"He came out with his hands up. He laid the weapon down inside the building, did what we asked him to do," Chief Kevin McKim said.

Investigators don't know what the suspect and victim were arguing about before the shooting, only that they worked together.

They said the victim did not have any weapons on him.

Police won't release names until Wednesday, but McKim said the victim was a young man, maybe mid-20s.

Annie: "Does it ever get easier for you?"
McKim: "No. Especially with young kids. It never gets easy. You just -- what caused this? How can somebody get so angry and do this? This day and age, in society, that's just the way it is."

Many neighbors near Marshall and North 165th East Avenue said it scares them - like Rafael Soto, who's lived there for 11 years.

"I want to keep this neighborhood safe," Soto said.

McKim said Catoosa has always been a safe town, but times are changing.

"In the old days, we used to get in the backyard, fight, shake hands, hug and go home. Now they shoot each other," he said.

Investigators said they'll question the suspect as soon as he's released from the hospital. They're not sure how he got hurt.
