Green Country Parents Show Support For Teacher After Resignation

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Some green country parents are wanting a teacher back in the classroom after she offered her resignation over a misbehaving student.

People packed the school board meeting Tuesday night hoping to share their opinions after a disturbing incident at Hilldale Elementary School only to find out they wouldn't be allowed to do so.

"Comments from the public are only permitted to be made on action items on the agenda only,” said lawyer Bo Rainey.

Parents say a student there cursed, used obscene gestures and exposed himself in the classroom while teacher Krystal Cox and other students were present.

After that incident, Cox submitted her resignation, vowing only to come back if changes are made.

"There has to be a change with what's going on,” said parent Joey Myers. “There has to be a change, and Ms. Cox is taking a stand and we back her 100 percent.”

Because of Board policy, the item was not on the agenda so they didn’t address the matter, but Cox's husband made an emotional plea to the audience when the board went into executive session.

"In this particular occasion, they as administrators have failed and they've failed the school and they've failed the community,” said Randy Cox.

He believes if the school provides a proper learning environment for them, the student in question will succeed.

He and others want to see more resources for every student so a situation like this doesn't happen again.

"If there's a student that needs help, they need a pair in there to assist the teacher. I mean, that's all it takes, just another person in there that can help.”

"You're gonna have to stand up for your own kids and do what's right,” Randy.

I spoke with the superintendent who did not want to be on camera and would not comment on the incident.

She says Cox, who rescinded her resignation, is welcome back at any time.
