Historic Military Convoy Makes Its Way Through Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
CLAREMORE, Oklahoma -

A grand convoy of historic military vehicles is making its way through Oklahoma. Dozens of people lined up to get a glimpse of the show as it parades across the country.

For military veteran Bob Warman, the opportunity to see a convoy of vintage military vehicles is one he couldn't pass up.

"It just brings back old memories," said Bob Warman, veteran.  "I come to see my ancestors. I drove jeeps in Korea, Japan, and trucks. And I'm glad to see these people come down from Chicago."

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association is leading a fleet of more than 40 vehicles down historic Route 66 in an effort to complete a 29-day mission from Illinois to California.

"This is the fourth convoy that we've conducted," said Dennis Boots of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association.

Video from a News On 6 viewer shows people lining the streets as the fleet makes its way through Green Country. We caught up with the crew in Claremore, where MVPA member Dennis Boots says this is his way of serving his country.

"I feel that I'm serving a purpose. I enjoy being in the military; I was there for five years," he said. "I served in Vietnam. Many of our vehicle owners are veterans, and we feel it's necessary to educate the public."

It's a symbol of patriotism Warman says will keep history alive.

"It's patriotic. It does something good. It's like seeing the American flag wherever it's at. I'm honoring it, and I'm glad to stand up for it," said veteran Bob Warman.

The convoy will be staying the night in Sapulpa and will be end their journey at the Santa Monica Pier in California.
