Tulsa Massage Spa Warns Of Industry Red Flags

TULSA, Oklahoma -

With another human trafficking arrest at a spa in Tulsa this week, it’s worth taking a closer look at red flags customers should look out for.

A prostitution sting Wednesday turned into a human trafficking arrest.

News On 6 talked with a local massage spa and employees said situations like this can reflect poorly on legitimate massage businesses. So, they are hoping to educate the community.

"It's disheartening. It's hard to see a story like this," said Shana Zimmerman with Aquarian Age Massage.

"We were the first real legitimate place to get massage in Tulsa. The first place where women were welcome to get massage in Tulsa," said Zimmerman.

Employees at Aquarian Age are reeling after officers arrested a woman at a Tulsa massage parlor on complaints of human trafficking.

Zimmerman said it's a hard story to hear that can reflect negatively on legit massage spas.

"These therapists go through rigorous training, retraining, they take CEU's to get more skills,” said Zimmerman. “This is a place that you go to find healing”

Police said the manager at A1 Massage parlor Haolin Yang had the proper certifications for her business but her employee who was giving the massage did not.

It's a red flag that Zimmerman said is easy to spot.

"When you walk into a massage establishment, the first thing that you are gonna look at, it's against the wall now everybody has to have their licensees posted where it is visible, with a picture as well," Zimmerman said.

"The second thing I would say to always look for are … women coming and going from the establishment," Zimmerman said.

Employees also said it is also important to make sure you know someone personally who has been to the business and had a positive experience.

"You do this because you love to do it,” Zimmerman said. "This is what they want to do, this is what they love to do they are here to heal people."

Jail records show Haolin Yang is out on bond.

She's due in court next week.
