Medal Of Honor Recipients Honored In Tulsa

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Saturday is "Medal of Honor Day" in Tulsa. Three recipients of America's highest military honor were at Veterans Park for a special ceremony after attending different events during the week.

Vietnam War Veteran First Sergeant Melvin Morris is from Okmulgee but now lives in Florida. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2014.

"The Oklahomans who gave the ultimate sacrifice - I wear it for them, too. The ones in the military that never came home. So, it was great, when I come here - I feel good," Said Morris.

Also honored was Vietnam Veteran Command Sergeant Major Bennie Atkins, is from Waurika, Oklahoma and Major General James Livingston who also served in Vietnam.

Officially “Medal of Honor Day” is celebrated on March 25 but organizers say that date always proved difficult with the Oklahoma weather. This is the 7th annual "Medal of Honor Day" in Tulsa.
