Sunny Sunday, But Gusty Winds Possible

Posted: Updated:

Make some more outdoor plans!  A sunny Sunday is on the way to cap off this beautiful weekend.

A few areas of passing clouds will impact parts of Green Country today, but most of us will still have plenty of sunshine to go around!  Another big warm-up is in store with highs back in the upper 70s to a few low 80s this afternoon.  Once again, the UV index will be very high so keep the sunscreen handy!

After a day of pleasantly light winds on Saturday, those gusty spring winds we know and don’t exactly love are making a return!  We’ll pick up a southeast breeze gusting 20 to 25 miles per hour today, so hang on to your hats!  Plan on several windy days to follow as a strong storm system taking shape to our west will keep steady south winds cranking up throughout the upcoming work week.

The warm weather isn’t going anywhere to start the work week with highs in the low 80s Monday afternoon!  Clouds will thicken up quite a bit on Tuesday, knocking our highs back a couple degrees into the upper 70s.  We look to stay primarily dry here in Green Country on Monday and Tuesday, but a few storms will likely fire up along a dryline set up in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, a precursor of things to come later in the week.

Storm chances for eastern Oklahoma increase by mid to late as a strong storm system kicks out of the southwest United States and into the Plains.  Scattered storms will be possible Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, likely continuing into Thursday.  Severe storms will be possible both days, and all modes of severe weather appear to be possible.

Now is a good time to be thinking ahead about your severe weather preparations for the Wednesday and Thursday timeframe.  As always, we want to emphasize:  Don’t be scared, just be prepared!  This is a typical May stormy setup that we’ve dealt with many times before.  Stick with us here at News On 6 and we’ll keep you advised throughout the week!
