Toasty Sunday Weather Ahead

Posted: Updated:

Things are getting a little toasty!  The warmest day of the year is on tap for our Sunday here in Green Country.

Passing clouds today won’t slow down another fast warm-up.  We’ll see our highs climb into the upper 80s this afternoon, and it’s not out of the question for a few spots west of Tulsa to climb very close to the 90 degree mark!  A southwest breeze will help usher in those very warm temperatures.

A very weak cold front arrives this evening, and that front could trigger a few isolated storms this evening into tonight, particularly east and northeast of Tulsa.  But, the chance for any one location to see a storm is only about 10% to 20%, and a large majority of us will stay dry.

Despite that front, the May warmth won’t be going anywhere next week!  We’ll keep our highs in the mid 80s Monday into Tuesday as the familiar gusty south winds steadily return, along with a few more clouds.

Our next noticeable storm system brushes by Tuesday night into Wednesday with a few scattered storms possible.  This is a fairly weak storm system by May standards, with organized severe weather looking unlikely.  Unfortunately, that also means rain will be somewhat spotty in nature so many of us could end up staying dry once again.

The weather pattern looks a bit more like June than May into late next week as humidity builds, storm chances stay low, and highs climb back to the upper 80s to near 90 by Thursday into Friday!  May is typically our most active period for severe weather, but it’ll be several days before any organized chance of severe weather returns to Green Country.

Our next significant storm system may be taking shape by next weekend with a stronger cold front providing a better chance for rain and storms by next Saturday or next Sunday.  We’ll keep you updated!
