Steamy Monday Across Eastern Oklahoma

Our recent run of below normal temperatures is quite the distant memory as late August heat builds for our Monday in eastern Oklahoma.

We’re starting off the work week with conditions that are a near carbon copy of this past weekend. Expect plenty of daytime sunshine, a gusty south wind 15-25 miles per hour, and afternoon highs surging back into the mid 90s. But with continued high humidity those heat index values will surge over 100 to near 103. You know the drill: Limit your time outside during the afternoon heat and please take it easy with your outdoor activities!

And guess what: We’ll do it all over again on Tuesday! Lows will barely dip below 80 Tuesday morning, and once again we’ll see those afternoon highs surge into the mid 90s with heat index values again above 100 with a steady south breeze.

Changes arrive by mid-week in the form of storm chances and a slight break from the heat! A very weak frontal boundary looks to drop into Green Country on Wednesday, providing a focal point for scattered strong storms. We should have enough scattered storms around on Wednesday to keep temperatures closer to the 90 degree mark as opposed to the mid to upper 90s. Storm chances may linger into Thursday as well.

That small mid-week relief will be fairly short-lived, as the heat looks to build again late next week with highs back in the mid 90s and heat indices back near or above 100 by Friday. That familiar heat looks like it will hold right on through Labor Day weekend as well with a slight chance of storms not out of the question next weekend. It sure looks like it’ll still feel like summer for the “unofficial” end of summer.
