A teenager has been arrested, accused of planning a mass shooting at the high school in Tonkawa, Okla.
Investigators began looking into the situation on Sunday after hearing reports about the alleged plot. Officers then learned that the suspect, a 13-year-old female student, made threats toward the high school and specific students.
A search warrant was executed at the teen’s home Sunday, where investigators found weapons, ammo, and “personal writings” as well as other personal effects relevant to the case. The student, who has not been identified due to her age, was then arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility.
The case remains ongoing, but investigators believe the teen was the only person involved in the plot.
Tonkawa Police ask any person who might have more information regarding this incident to call (580) 628-2615.
Tonkawa Schools Superintendent Lori Simpson issued the following statement regarding the incident:
"The Tonkawa Police Department received a call from a concerned parent in regards to a threatening text message sent to his child. School authorities were contacted Sunday afternoon about the situation and provided detailed information concerning the former student. Using this data, local authorities determined that the threat was legitimate and secured a search warrant. The person making the threats was arrested and placed in a juvenile detention center. The quick action on the part of the Tonkawa Police Department Sunday evening in arresting and taking the female into custody, allowed students to attend school on Monday as scheduled."
