Tulsa firefighters say the department's new drone is helping cut costs and protect crews.

The Tulsa Fire Department got a call Thursday about smoke on Turkey Mountain.

In that area of Tulsa it is hard to pinpoint where a fire is located, so TFD flew its drone over the area to find the exact location of the fire.

"Instead of having four or five crews combing the side of the mountain which always results in injuries, or you know anything is possible.  It allowed them to go to the trail that was closest to it, get down access it and start finding the fire," said Tulsa Fire Captain Stan May.

Captain May say it took the drone about ten minutes to find the fire and then about two hours for firefighters then two more hours to get the fire under control.
