The merchants who did business on Brookside back in the 1970s had a problem with huge crowds of young people who would congregate during summer evenings.  They decided to try to combat the problem by organizing a daytime event called "Shorts Day."

Reporter Rex Daugherty filed a story about it on August 18, 1979.

His report featured a disappointed merchant, a few people in shorts and one young man who apparently thought it was "Stilts Day" instead.
