The large outdoor ice skating rink is back in downtown Tulsa for Winterfest through January 2nd, 2024.

Many families are starting to check holiday activities off their lists, ice skating being one of the more popular traditions. Winterfest is in its 16th year and is outside the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa.

"Within the first couple years we were seeing about 50,000 people and now we see over 200,000 people come over the course of the 40 days that we are open," said Special Events Manager Victoria Pittman.

Winterfest kicks off each year with the annual tree-lighting ceremony. Then, family and friends strap on skates and take the ice.

"There is just something about being outside, feeling that cold breeze on you, getting to skate under the stars, and also with all the lighting it just makes you feel that Christmas holiday feeling," Pittman added.

Some skaters hug the wall as others glide across the ice, but no matter the skill level, everyone is welcome in the Winterfest rink.

General admission to the rink costs $12. To make it even more accessible, Pittman said special discounts are offered throughout the season.

"On Mondays we do a canned food drive where you get half off skating. On Wednesdays we do "Warmth Wednesday" where you get half off if you bring a new or gently used item of clothing or gloves or scarf," she said.

Other discounts include half off for Arvest and Cox customers, and $4 off if you bring your own skates, have a military ID, or attended an Oilers game or show at the BOK Center.

Ice skating is not the only activity available at Winterfest. Guests can enjoy free musical performances on Fridays, ride the Winterfest Express Train on Saturdays, and get a free photo taken with Santa on Sundays from 3-5 p.m.
