Domestic Violence Intervention Services is asking the community to consider donating gas cards to help its clients with the cost of fuel this winter.
DVIS said its clients who have dealt with domestic violence can sometimes struggle with getting to necessary doctor appointments or even the store.
DVIS hopes this drive will help offset what can sometimes be an expensive cost and make sure clients don't have to skip out on going to the doctor or other important appointments because they don't have enough gas.
Laurel Williamson with DVIS said they see more cases in domestic violence around the holidays, which increases the needs for donations even more.
"There’s typically a surge around the holidays of incidents and crisis calls. Because a lot of the stressors that come with the holidays, you know, family visits, maybe not enough money to purchase presents for the family, time off from work. So you’re cooped up at home, and it can just escalate more quickly with those factors," Williamson said.
DVIS said anyone who wants to donate can do so by dropping off a gas card at DVIS any time its office is open.
