Cause Of Arrowhead Yacht Club Fire Under Investigation, No Injuries Reported

The cause of a fire at a Delaware County yacht club is under investigation after it went up and flames and was deemed a total loss this weekend.

The Arrowhead Yacht Club & Marina on Grand Lake caught fire Saturday evening just over a week after a previous fire destroyed three vessels in the area.

It started around 5:30 p.m. just off Fox Run Road and Wood Drive, firefighters and witnesses at the scene said.

The Monkey Island Fire Department responded to the call with the Ketchum and Cleora Fire Departments. Monkey Island FD said a fire boat was used to spray water from the lake and a ladder truck fought flames from above.

Neighbors at the scene told News On 6 that they watched the fire grow from a small flame which then took over the entire restaurant.

A neighbor who is friends with Joe Harwood, the owner, said this is a sad loss for their business and community.

"I heard a fire engine and I thought 'Oh god again' because of the boat fire, then I came out and walked out the balcony and I saw smoke coming from the yacht club, and I went in to holler at my husband, came out two minutes later and it was almost fully engulfed," said Wendy McKane.

Monkey Island FD said it took several hours of intense firefighting to extinguish the blaze. No one was injured.

A statement shared on the Arrowhead Yacht Club & Marina Facebook page declared the building a total loss.

We are completely devastated. First and foremost, no one was on the property at AYC when the fire started. We are so thankful that no one was injured. Arrowhead Yacht Club caught fire late this afternoon and unfortunately, it is a complete loss. All of the boats in the marina are fine, the only thing affected was the restaurant. However, we are fortunate that we have Cherokee in operation and will continue to remain open to serve our members. At this time, we are unaware of the cause of the fire. Please do not come to the property, so we can allow the investigation to take place. We appreciate all of your thoughts, concerns, and prayers during this time.

This is the second fire at that marina in just nine days. On Jan. 18, investigators said they think a fire started on one of the boats before spreading to two more.

They said marina employees saw the fire and quickly disconnected the three boats from the dock to keep the flames from spreading.

Saturday's fire did not impact any boats, just the restaurant.
